William B. Gartner, PhD

Henry W. Simonsen Chair in Entrepreneurship, University of Southern California

Dr. Gartner holds the Henry W. Simonsen Chair in Entrepreneurship at the University of Southern California. He is a leading authority on entrepreneurship, new venture development, and the problems of emerging organizations, and he has been listed as the most cited author on entrepreneurship for academic articles written since 1986. He has won awards for his research from the Academy of Management and the journal Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice. Dr. Gartner serves on the Executive Committee of the Entrepreneurship Research Consortium (ERC), a group of 30 universities and foundations involved in the development of a national longitudinal database of nascent entrepreneurs who are in the process of starting companies. Prior to joining USC, he was on the faculties at Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, and San Francisco State University.
