ART 101: Art Appreciation

Overview

This course examines art appreciation by developing the skill of art criticism through a brief overview of Western art history. You will develop the critical vocabulary and analytical skills with which to describe and evaluate works of art. For your final project, you will produce a virtual art gallery tour. The tour will include embedded images accompanied by a description and criticism for several works of art.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Critique a work of art using the steps of art criticism.
  • Apply theories of art for understanding and critiquing works of art.
  • Identify and analyze a variety of artistic styles, periods, and media.
  • Create a virtual art gallery tour that includes a description and criticism for several works of art.
