BBA 101: Introduction to Business

Overview

This course will provide an overview of the world of business by exploring both the external and the internal environments that impact a business.   Throughout the course you will be working on a business plan for a small start-up business.  This plan will help you understand basic business aspects such as organizational structures and forms, marketing, management, human resource development, finance, and operations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify an organization’s competition and compare product/service features and prices.
  • Describe the supply chain for getting a product or service to an organization’s customers.
  • Determine appropriate demographics for identifying a target market for a given product or service.
  • Determine the segment of a market for a given product or service.
  • Describe business strategies for pricing, distributing, and promoting an organization’s product or service.
  • Describe business strategies for using technology to communicate within and outside your company, and for using quality and technology to complement each other.
  • Describe appropriate methods for effective motivation of employees.
  • Describe an organization’s long-term financial picture.
  • Determine what financial statements are necessary for an organization to report to the stockholders, employees, and investors.
  • Write an abbreviated business plan for a start-up company.
